Ikirun College of Health Technology has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, professional development and the delivery of quality health education through its participation in the two-day National Capacity-Building Training Programme for Primary Health Care Educators on Research Methodology and Application of National Standing Orders, held from October 20 to 21, 2026.
The College, represented at the national training programme by Mr Olaoye Sodiq Sola and Mrs Abayomi Mary O., joined other participants in sessions designed to strengthen the capacity of educators in research, scientific writing, effective supervision and the application of national standards in community and primary health care education.
The training featured comprehensive sessions on research ethics, responsible conduct of research and data management, with discussions spanning two parts to provide participants with a broader understanding of ethical principles, professional accountability and best practices in conducting and managing research. These areas remain essential to producing credible research findings and promoting evidence-based decision-making in health education and practice.
Other key sessions focused on standardising the teaching of research methodology, proposal development and report writing, as well as effective supervision, assessment and the application of digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research. Participants also explored scientific writing, referencing, publication and research dissemination, equipping them with relevant knowledge and skills to improve academic research, enhance teaching methods and support the sharing of research findings within the health sector.
A significant component of the programme was the session on the use of the National Standing Orders for quality community health education and competency-based primary health care practice in Nigeria. The session underscored the importance of aligning health education with established national standards, strengthening professional competence and ensuring that the training of health personnel responds effectively to the needs of communities and the wider healthcare system.
The participation of Ikirun College of Health Technology in the programme reflects the institution's dedication to continuous staff development, improved teaching and learning, and the adoption of contemporary approaches to health education. By engaging in professional capacity-building initiatives of this nature, the College continues to strengthen its academic and professional foundation while promoting research-informed instruction and competency-based training.
The knowledge and professional insights gained from the programme are expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching, research supervision and academic practices within the institution.
Commending the participants, the Rector, Mr. Salaudeen Oyewale said the college is committed to advancing health education through quality instruction, practical training, research development and the continuous professional growth of its workforce.
The Rector maintained that the College will continue to support initiatives that enhance staff capacity, uphold professional standards and prepare competent health personnel to contribute meaningfully to primary healthcare delivery and national health development.
